Ownership is the percentage of contest entries that include a given player. If 30 percent of the field rosters a quarterback, his ownership is 30 percent. A heavily owned player is called chalk; a lightly owned one is contrarian.
Why it matters
Ownership is the backbone of tournament strategy. Fading a popular player who busts gains you ground on most of the field, while catching a low-owned player who goes off can win a tournament outright. It is the raw material behind leverage.
Where you see it in DFS Hero
Ownership appears as a column in your player pool, and you can edit it if you have a stronger read than the projection. The contest simulator uses ownership to build a realistic field and to compute your lineup's leverage and duplicate estimates.
