GPP and cash are the two broad shapes of DFS contest, and they reward opposite instincts. A GPP, or guaranteed prize pool, is a top-heavy tournament: only a small slice of the field cashes, usually around the top 20 percent, and the prizes climb steeply toward first. A cash game pays roughly the top half of the field evenly, with formats like double-ups, 50/50s, and head-to-heads.
Why it matters
The contest shape decides how you should build. In cash, you want a high floor and consistency, because finishing 40th pays the same as finishing first. In GPPs, you want ceiling, leverage, and uniqueness, because you have to beat almost everyone to win real money. The same lineup can be smart for one and reckless for the other.
Where you see it in DFS Hero
The contest simulator scores your lineups against each contest's real payout shape, so a lineup's numbers already reflect whether it is being judged as a cash or GPP play. Lean on Cash percentage and floor for cash games, and GPP Score, ceiling, and leverage for tournaments.
