The field is the set of opponent lineups your entries compete against in a contest. To know how your lineup will really do, you have to know what it is up against, and that is the field.
Why it matters
A lineup is only good or bad relative to the field. A safe, chalky roster might cruise in a small cash game but get buried in a giant tournament. Judging your lineups against a realistic field, rather than against their own raw point total, is what turns projections into contest decisions.
Where you see it in DFS Hero
Real contest rosters are not published before lock, so the simulator builds a realistic field for each slate, modeled on how entrants actually play using live ownership and real stack shapes. Real tournament fields run only around 91 to 92 percent unique, and the simulated field reproduces that, including the way popular lineups show up more than once.
