Boom / Bust

Last updated Jul 14, 2026

Boom and bust describe the two ends of a possible outcome. A boom is a big, ceiling game. A bust is a floor game where a player or lineup falls flat. A player called boom-or-bust has a wide range between the two: real upside, but real downside.

Why it matters

Boom-or-bust plays are the fuel of tournaments, where you need a high ceiling to beat a large field, and the danger of cash games, where a floor game can sink you. Knowing a player's range, not just his average projection, is how you decide where he belongs.

Where you see it in DFS Hero

The contest simulator reports each lineup's floor and ceiling, its realistic low and high outcomes, so you can weigh safety against upside. At the player level, the Game Sim outlook shows a Boom percentage alongside floor, median, and ceiling, giving you a read on how often a player reaches a big game.
