Build settings overview

Last updated Jul 14, 2026

Every build starts with two choices: whether to just optimize or to optimize and simulate, and how you want your lineups shaped. Both live in the settings drawer that opens when you start a build.

Build vs Build and Simulate

DFS Hero has two build modes:

  • Build runs the optimizer only. You get a pool of optimized lineups with points, salary, and ownership, generated as fast as possible. Use it when you just want lineups.
  • Build and Simulate runs the optimizer, then scores every lineup against a realistic contest. On top of the basics you get contest-aware metrics like projected rank, win rate, and ROI. Use it when you want to know how your lineups hold up before you enter.

What you can shape

The settings drawer lets you control how the optimizer builds:

  • Lineup count. How many lineups to generate.
  • Projection source. Which set of projections to build from, including the Hero projection or your own edits.
  • Stacking. Group correlated players, like a quarterback with a receiver, using per-sport stack rules.
  • Exposure. Cap how often any one player shows up across your lineups.
  • Salary and randomness. Set salary limits and add controlled variance so your lineups are not carbon copies.

Sport defaults are a sensible starting point. Change only what you need, then build.
